IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized the Second Episode of the online live show “An Hour with The Volunteers”

To engage IEEE members all across the world during this global crisis, the IEEE AIUB Student Branch took the bold initiative of organizing a weekly live show titled “An Hour with The Volunteers”, which is set to be held on every Friday at 10 PM (GMT +06). On 29th May 2020, the second episode of the weekly live show was broadcasted on the official Facebook page of the IEEE AIUB Student Branch and was powered by the StreamYard platform. The live show was arranged to enjoy at the comfort of everyone’s home during this unavoidable lockdown situation for the global pandemic of COVID-19. The live show was hosted by Mashrur Sakib Choyon, Vice-Chairperson (Technical), IEEE AIUB Student Branch. The guest speaker for the second episode was Shams Shad Islam Khan, Secretary, IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee; Professional Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Product Delivery Engineer, Code Marshal IT. The live show was inaugurated with greetings and wishes of good regards for the belated Eid-Ul-Fitr from the host. The host welcomed the viewers to the Second Episode of the weekly live show “An Hour with The Volunteers”. He informed the viewers about the motive behind organizing this live show as well as its purpose. He also described how the fellow viewers will get benefitted from this hourly talk. Following his introductory remarks, the host shared the immense response and support of nearly 3500+ viewers from the previous episode of the live show before he introduced the guest to everyone. Consequently, the guest wished all the viewers for the belated Eid and then thanked the IEEE AIUB Student Branch for inviting him to the live show. He also conveyed his sympathy towards the recent unfortunate situation of the COVID-19 pandemic all around the world.


Firstly, the guest started the talk by sharing his childhood memories of being a mediocre in his student life. He mentioned that he passed his secondary levels playfully. He also disclosed the reason for choosing to apply in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) as his private tutor motivated him towards paving career into engineering field. He shared his nostalgic memories of his days in BUET and further included his journey as a freshman product delivery engineer in the job market. While sharing his first job interview after graduation, he suggested the viewers to remain calm and confident; most importantly to believe in one’s capabilities, during their corporate interviews.

In the second part of the show, Mr. Shams Shad Islam Khan explained the importance of getting involved with volunteering for the students. He further explained how volunteering can help anyone to build up new skills and can provide opportunities to meet new people. He then shared his IEEE volunteering experience as his friends influenced him to join IEEE and also shared his experience as a mentor of IEEE AIUB Student Branch for the last three years. He notified the audience, how participating in extra-curricular activities helped him in his career. He further added how the IEEE CLE Training and IEEE Volunteering, helped him gain knowledge for both professional and student life. He also shared that prioritizing one’s work was an important aspect; not only to have balance in life, but also to manage time between studies and co-curricular activities. In addition, he inspired the audience to actively participate in the many online events organized by IEEE Student Branches and get productive while staying in home quarantine.

Lastly, Mr. Shams participated in a quick game of rapid-fire where the host asked him a series of questions in a quick manner. To make the show more interactive, questions had been taken from the audience throughout the show which the guest answered humbly. After that, he expressed his gratitude towards his well-wishers for their support and guidance which brought him to his current position. He advised the attendees to stay at home and stay safe. He also mentioned the importance of keeping connections with friends and family during this pandemic situation. In the end, the host concluded the show by thanking the viewers for watching the show and also informed them regarding the upcoming episode of the live show. The show was a successful one with a huge response of 1500+ live views and 3500+ views in total.
