On 05th December 2020, IEEE AIUB Student organized the webinar session titled “Mastering Professional Etiquette: Strategies and Tips for the Workplace” using the virtual platform ‘Google Meets.’ The session was conducted by Dr. Uzma Akhand Hossain, Ph.D. in English Education, Teachers College, Columbia University; Vice President, Human Resources & Training, C&T Home Care and Moin Uddin, Clinical Services Team Manager, C&T Home Care; Former Chairperson, IEEE AIUB Student Branch.
The session focusing on the elucidative discussion on the corporate business life’s performance and collaboration was inaugurated by DR. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. In his brief speech, he acknowledged the importance of the webinar’s topic while sharing his views on professionalism and code of ethics. He also emphasized the necessity of professional etiquettes in the job field.
Dr. Uzma Akhand Hossain started her session by defining professional etiquettes, portrayed the ideas of grooming, self-awareness, personal hygiene, and body language. After that, she discussed professional appearance and the importance of maintaining clean and well-pressed clothing. She then portrayed the difference between business and business casual days with examples. Afterward, she emphasized the first impression and termed laziness as an impression killer. In his speech, Dr. Hossain gave examples about different social skills, verbal, nonverbal communications while also possessing common respect and consideration for others. She included a variety of small but essential details regarding professionalism and proper workplace etiquette. Near the end of her presentation, she encouraged the participants to be responsible for their actions and keep their goals set.
Then, Mr. Moin Uddin took the platform and discussed engineers’ management role and showed few steps for maintaining professionalism in engineering while also sharing his journey with IEEE. Mr. Moin ended his speech by encouraging the participants to deliver using their work rather than talking about it. Near the end of the session, an interactive question-answer session took place where Dr. Uzma Akhand Hossain answered different queries and suggestions from the participants regarding professionalism and career tips.
Dr. Hasan Imam, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB, delivered the concluding speech where he appreciated the speakers for their continuous guidance and participation in IEEE AIUB SB’s activities. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Imam shared the importance of the webinar topic in professional life and concluded the event. The session was graced by the presence of 79 registered participants.
