On 13th October, 2019 IEEE AIUB Student Branch successfully celebrated “IEEE DAY-2019” at American International University-Bangladesh. IEEE Day is a global event that takes place annually on 1st of October in order to celebrate the anniversary in memory of the first time IEEE members gathered together from all over the world to share their innovative ideas in 1884. The world is in continuous search of modernization for an enhanced future; hence the theme of the IEEE DAY-2019 is “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. The joyous eventful day consisted of a Robosoccer Competition, Line Follower Robot (LFR) Competition along with interactive games and special cultural programme to engage and entertain the participants.
The day-long venture was inaugurated with a cake cutting ceremony by honorable Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, Vice Chancellor, American International University Bangladesh. Afterward, she engaged with the students along with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch’s Executive Board members and thanked IEEE AIUB Student Branch for their flawless efforts in organizing the event. In addition, she praised IEEE AIUB Student Branch for all their activities and success that they have achieved till now. She concluded by encouraging the IEEE members along with their volunteers to keep on showing diligence. The cake-cutting ceremony was spectated by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Department Head, CoE; Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Special Assistant, Office of Student Affairs, AIUB; Former Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; along with other respected faculty members and administrative officers.
The competitions for the day started after noon, as the participants engaged in vicious Robot Soccer. Consecutive competitive matches were supervised by Dr. Md. Rifat Hazari, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB with the help of student volunteers. 21 teams participated in this knockout Soccer match led by their powerful robots on four wheels. The robots and their makers showed immense confidence and capability when put together on a one on one game of soccer. Finally the best performing robot was declared the winner.
Later, the Line Following Robot (LFR) competition was conducted, which increased the spirits of the contestants and participants. The LFR competition was conducted by Mr. Asif Hasan, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. He provided quick solutions and also helped the contestants with minor coding and construction for the robots. 4 teams participated in the competition, amongst whom the fastest robot to complete the IEEE shaped black pathway was announced the winner.
After a short lunch break, the event was taken indoors and was initiated with a cultural program. The hall room resonated with music as the attendees enjoyed a moment of relaxation.
Later, Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB and Dr. Md. Hasan Imam, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch took the stage and announced names of the runners up and winners for the Robosoccer and Line Follower Robot competitions respectively. They later on announced the names of the second runners up, the runners up and the winner for the online quiz competition.
Furthermore he handed tokens of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan ,Prof. Dr. Md. Hasan Imam and Kaushik Shikdar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Motivator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch for their participation in the event.
Dr. Md. Hasan Imam, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch provided a token of appreciation to Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique sir and thanked the attendees for their cooperation.
At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch took the stage and delivered the concluding speech. He explained the motive of IEEE Day and inspired many to join IEEE’s vast network and privilege from it benefits. The event was concluded with a group photo of The IEEE AIUB Student Branch executives and a group photo with all the attendees.
