On 24th November 2018, IEEE AIUB Student Branch in association with IEEE Computer Society AIUB Student Branch Chapter successfully organized a seminar on Applications, Tools and Techniques of Data Science at American International University-Bangladesh. The seminar focused on various applications and techniques of data science. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Md. Saddam Hossain, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, AIUB, who holds a reputation for being highly skilled in the field.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who initiated his speech by talking about the importance of data science. He discussed how the world took a quick turn in terms of transporting information. He further discussed how omnipresent this data has become and how it seems to play an important part in our day to day activities. Moreover, he accessed the work scopes for the field.
The speaker of the seminar Dr. Md. Saddam Hossain, initiated his session by illuminating the students of the basics of data science and how it came to be. He discussed different procedures and applications, putting key emphasis on the current research prospects. He briefly assessed the responsibilities of a data scientist along with procedures required for conducting a successful data science project. He further stated the importance of the field and also provided the participants with hands-on working examples. Later on, he discussed about the vast career prospects for engineers interested in the field. He concluded the event with a question and answer session where enthusiastic participants fulfilled their queries.
The concluding speech was given by Dr. Khandaker Tabin Hasan, Associate Professor and Head of Graduate Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, AIUB, who further talked about the work pattern and the importance of maths and statistics in this particular field. He thanked the speaker for conducting such an event and also addressed the opportunities that these types of sessions provided to the students. Later he provided crest and tokens of appreciation to the honorary speaker for the event. Afterward, a photo session with the participants took place which marked the end of the seminar.
