On 24th July 2018, IEEE AIUB Student Branch in association with IEEE MTT-S AIUB Student Branch Chapter successfully organized a seminar on “Development, Characterization and Electromagnetic Performances Analysis of Flexible Material Antenna” at American International University-Bangladesh. The seminar focused on the characteristics and importance of flexible material antenna for microwave and wireless communication. It was conducted by Dr. Ashiqur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who is a known scholar on flexible material antenna design, microwave imaging, material dielectric characterization and electromagnetic performance analysis field. The event was participated by enthusiasts who were keen to learn about this new technology.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who initiated his speech by familiarizing the students on flexible microwave antenna. He discussed how scientists develop new concepts and ideas and engineers turn them into reality. For this reason, he emphasized the importance of clear knowledge over basic mathematical concepts. Then he described the importance of antenna for day-to-day life and its impact on modern civilization. Later on, he talked about limitations of wireless data transmission and how flexible antenna can play a vital role to improve it.
The speaker of the seminar, Dr. Ashiqur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, took the stage and initiated the session by sharing his experience of working with flexible antenna technology. He discussed the presence of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics in our daily life. He talked about how the conventional antennas made of composite materials fail to cope up with modern technology and how the necessity of flexible material antenna came into light. He described the characteristics of the flexible dielectric and substrate materials and how their low permittivity and low dielectric loss properties can be desirable for flexible wireless transmission which can be used in biomedical and communication sectors. Thus it plays a significant role in balancing our modern society. Later on, he also described the method of identification of crystalline material and per unit dimensions. He talked about the analytical properties of this flexible material and how they surpassed the composite materials in antenna technology. He talked about how these fabricated antennas hold a potential role in future and a wide domain for research on using them on human body parts. After that, he discussed the antenna’s prototype model and its further application for the advancement of the society.
The concluding speech was given by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Associate Dean & Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who thanked the speaker for sharing his knowledge with the participants. He encouraged the participants to expand their knowledge about the latest technologies and how engaging themselves in the further development of flexible antenna technology can bring a new dimension to the society.
Afterward, Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman handed over the certificate and token of appreciation to Dr. Ashiqur Rahman. Later, a group photo session with the speaker took place which marked the end of the seminar.
