On 26th July 2018, IEEE AIUB Student Branch in collaboration with IEEE IAS AIUB Student Branch Chapter and in association with Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) successfully organized a workshop on “Dare to lead” at American International University-Bangladesh. The workshop focused on the essential leadership skills needed during student life to excel and have a better career in the future. The workshop was conducted by Almeer Ahsan Asif, Executive Education from Harvard Kennedy School; Leadership Faculty at BYLC and Arnob Kumar Saha, Assistant Manager, Office of Professional Development, BYLC, which displays their excellence in igniting the spark in the youth, which would light up their way towards success.
The venture was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Professor & Head (Undergraduate Program), Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who talked about the importance of skills and the consequences of lacking skills when working under a team. He pointed out that startup requires networking, ethics, and unity. He further stated that classroom teachings may not be enough, hence workshops are essential, and also advised the participants to seek help from alumni members to guide them.
The first speaker of the seminar Almeer Ahsan Asif, Executive Education from Harvard Kennedy School, Leadership Faculty at BYLC took the stage and initiated the session. He discussed the concept of a leader and leadership and advised the participants to gather an idea about relative companies and build networking. He also provided tips on how to make one more presentable, helping to draw the attention of the others. He concluded his session by discussing the important aspects of professionalism along with advising the participants to step out of their comfort zones and learn to develop one by leading.
The second speaker of the session Arnob Kumar Saha, Assistant Manager, Office of Professional Development, Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center, took the stage and initiated his part of the session. He discussed the importance of learning a role and discussed the importance of professional etiquette and how the first impression can have an impactful blow on an organization. He advised the participants to research a company for any conference or any professional stage. He concluded his session by asking the participants to focus on relevant topics and also choose actions wisely. The session terminated with a question and answer round.
For the concluding speech Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, Advisor; IEEE AIUB Student Branch, thanked the speakers for giving time and effort in bringing zest to the event and addressed the importance of developing leadership skills in hope of a prosperous future. He urged the participants to take lessons from the event and show more zeal. Later Mr. Almeer Ahsan Asif and Mr. Arnob Kumar Saha were provided with crest and certificate of appreciation by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain on behalf of IEEE AIUB Student Branch. Afterward, a photo session with the participants took place which marked the end of the workshop. The venture was graced by Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad, Motivator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Vice-Chairperson (technical), Young Professionals, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB along with others.
